X-Ray room design requirements

One of the most important design operations of medical centers is the accurate design of X-ray rooms, which plays an important role in protecting the health of patients and medical staff against X-ray complications. The following is how to design an X-ray room according to the project operations:

1- X-Ray room layout

Because no radiation should pass through the floor of the radiology room and endanger the health of the staff, the design of the room is usually done in the lowest part of the building so that if the radiation passes through the floor, it does not pose a danger to the staff. If you have to install a radiology room on the upper floors, the floor must be covered with lead. Also, the walls of the room should be insulated with lead to prevent the transmission of primary and secondary beams. The most important part of radiology is the control room, which should pay special attention to the insulation of its walls with lead to ensure the health of personnel.

2- Lead lined wall

Lead is the best metal for absorbing X-rays due to its high atomic number. Lead is also the best option for X-ray protection in imaging environments due to its high molecular density in places with limited space. Which plays an important role in the health of medical staff.

The amount of lead used in imaging centers is related to the voltage of the X-ray source, the duration of X-ray activation, and the distance from the control room to the X-ray tube.

Lead in radiology centers usually uses 2 mm or more of lead due to the high voltage of the tube, and in dental clinics (single tooth photo) 1 mm of lead is used to insulate the environment.

During installation, high-purity lead sheets should be used for protection, and the lead sheets should overlap well to absorb the primary and secondary beams well.

3- Lead Lined Doors

One of the most important ways to prevent X-ray leakage is to pay special attention to the lead doors of imaging centers. Insulating lead doors is one of the most important tasks of X-ray room designer teams.

4- Lead Glass

Lead glass also plays an important role in medical imaging centers. In addition to absorbing X-rays, lead glass should be transparent and provide good visibility for the technician. Lead glass has different dimensions and thicknesses depending on the voltage of the beam tube and the type of imaging medium.

When installing lead glass, special attention should be paid to the protection of the environment around the glass by the lead frame to prevent radiation leakage.

The design of imaging centers is a technical-engineering work that should be paid special attention to the type of work done to maintain the health of the personnel. The technical team of VATA Medical Company, with a long history of activity in the field of pre-commissioning of medical imaging centers, performs its duty in the field of maintaining the health of the personnel by fully protecting the medical environments.
